BuilderPress is made up of many different types of people. These guidelines are here to make your life on BuilderPress easier and to benefit the entire community. Your use of BuilderPress is subject to these guidelines and to the Terms of Service.
Some Do’s
- Do be nice. Trolls and stalkers can ruin a great community. Please play nice with others and think before you click the Send Message button. If we receive a complaint we will review it and, if appropriate, take action.
- Do send community messages to let your community members know when something is new on your site or when your blog address changes. Keep in mind that you want to encourage people to read your blog; repeated messages that offer no value to your members could result in their leaving your community. Remember the adage “All things in moderation.”
- Do join groups that interest you. When you find a site that makes you happy, join the conversation. Read the blog, leave comments, and tell your friends about it.
- Do upload a great photo of yourself, be original.
- Do tag members and groups with specific and relevant keywords. Tagging is a great service to the community by helping us all find great news.
- Do send relevant messages to other members. Being connected to your peers, friends, and people with similar interests is fun and productive.
Some Dont’s
- Don’t tag members with URLs, your site name, or anything else self-promotional. Using another member’s profile as your personal billboard doesn’t help the community. If you abuse the use of tags, we’ll remove your tags and may take additional action.
- Don’t get overzealous with your community messages. Put yourself in the position of your readers and ask yourself, “Would I want to be notified with this message, or am I annoying my readers?” If you annoy them, they will leave.
- Don’t pretend to own a web site if you don’t.
- Don’t add friends just to gain eyeballs. We call this “contact spamming” — indiscriminately adding hundreds of people as friends. You’ll end up with far too many conversations to follow, and the community owner won’t know friend from poser. We consider contact spamming a form of abuse.
- Don’t upload an avatar that is mature in content, and don’t upload any image that is considered an adult image. If we learn about an adult image (and people WILL report it), we’ll remove the image and may take additional action, which may include terminating your Builder Press account. Be sure to read our image guidelines.
- Don’t spam. Spam includes bulk messaging; self-promotional messages; excessive links in messages, and any message whose only purpose is to bring you eyeballs.
Some Points To Remember
BuilderPress is not a signpost advertising your blog. When a great site gets added to BuilderPress, natural growth is expected. We’re happy that some of you have added new readers because of BuilderPress. However, please remember that above all, BuilderPress is about connecting people to “new home” blogs that interest them. If you send bulk messages to our members solely to market your site, we will take action.
We hate spam.
We consider spam to be any of the following:
- Bulk messaging of any kind.
- Using mechanical means (or “bots”) to ensure that your avatar or community is placed in a top position.
- Community invites to people you do not know or with whom you do not have a current relationship.
- Avatars that advertise a product. Yeah, we know you have a business, but your avatar represents you, not your business. Purely promotional messages like “Hey, I’ve got a hot deal, check it out!”
Remember that there are people of varying ages on this site. Be responsible and be sure to classify your site as “private” if it contains adult content. We take these issues very seriously.
Also, we do not allow pornographic images and if we receive a complaint, we will review it and, if appropriate, take action.
Other people may annoy you. You have the right to remove yourself from their contacts list and from their community. To take it a step further, you can remove them from your “friends” list. If you see abuse (such as adult content, stalking, or spam), please report it. If not, understand that annoying someone may not be illegal and you have a way to remove yourself from the offending party.
These Guidelines were written with the best interests of our community in mind. Most of our members handle themselves well, and go out of their way to respect other members here. If you don’t think you can abide by these guidelines, then maybe BuilderPress isn’t right for you.
